A harrowing docunovel about 15-year-old Ruth, who after being liberated from Buchenwald in 1945, leads a group of children across Europe to eventual safety in Palestine. After Buchenwald is liberated at the end of World War II, Ruth, the only one of her family to survive, tries to go home. When she returns to her village, hoping to find a friend or relative, Ruth finds that everything has changed. With no place to go, she joins an underground organization that helps people get to Palestine, and risks her life to lead a group of children there.
