In September, the Maine Library Association (MLA) and League of Women Voters of Maine (LWVME) announced Maine Reads/Maine Votes, their partnership to inform and empower voters. While collaboration between the two groups is not new, this agreement brings greater visibility, combined expertise, and a wealth of new resources to the work of both organizations.

MLA and LWVME are kicking off their partnership with an information exchange between librarians and League members to discuss uniting information and civic expertise for voter registration, candidate forums, issue discussions, and other civic events. In addition, librarians will learn about the League’s latest nonpartisan voting guide created especially for Maine voters, with new information about online voter registration and ranked choice voting.

This effort is inspired by the national partnership between °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê¿ª½±ÏÖ³¡Ö±²¥ and the League of Women Voters announced in May. “This partnership with the League of Women Voters of Maine aligns very well with library values of education, access to information and civic engagement,” said Maine Library Association President Amy Wisehart. We couldn’t agree more.
